Lara-Lee's 50th Birthday Celebration - Sorrento, Italy

** UPDATE 04/04/22 - The dates for this trip have been finalized. Arrive by May 27th, 2023 - leave by June 4th, 2023. I am contracting with a local transportation service to do a pickup at the Rome airport on Saturday May 27th, 2023 on or before 12 noon and going back to Rome / the airport on June 4th, 2023 probably leaving the Sorrento area by 8-9AM. So if you’re looking for help getting to and from Sorrento this could be an option. More to come on that. Again, come and leave whenever you want but I do encourage a day or two in Rome on the way in or out of the country if you’ve never been.

For those that want to join us in Italy. we will be going back to Sorrento, Italy which is on the Amalfi coast. On our trip there last fall this was the one area we said we would want to come back to and spend more time. We will be going for at least two weeks and I will try to keep the birthday events (2 or 3) centered on some combination of Tue/Wed/Thu, to leave people time to do whatever they want. The streets are narrow, twisty and often on the edge of a cliff, and parking ANYWHERE is a pain in the neck, so think twice or three times about renting a car.

I will try to provide phone numbers / contact for a local driver who can try to help make arrangements if people want to go up to Pompeii and drive along the coast. More to come later.

About the area / Things to do

• Sorrento is a great little town. You can walk the street and sit at a cafe and enjoy your morning coffee or afternoon wine, or take a 20 minute boat over to Capri and spend the day on the beach or exploring the island, Pompeii about an hour and a half from there and is a great place to go for those who like history, there are wineries and coastal towns to explore, Sorrento is great to use as a base and make day trips (Note - Rome is NOT a day trip). However, everyone should consider spending a few days in Rome on the way flying in, or before flying back. Much to see and do around there including the Coleseum, Vatican, St. Marks Basilica is stunning, Systine Chapel, Trevi Fountain, etc. 

Getting here

• The airports to fly in to are Rome or Naples Italy (note we have heard Naples is very crime ridden so be careful if you choose this option). You can get from Rome to Sorrento very economically by train or bus or less economically by private car (most private drivers use Mercedes Vans).

• As indicated above I will try to provide contacts for local reliable driver who can pickup and drop off from the airport and also be used for local tours around Sorrento (Pompeii, winderies, coastal drives, etc.)
